Just as the players were looking forward to GTA6, the R star announced the launch of the official MOD trading platform “Cfx Marketplace” to allow model group creators to upload the MOD and get real benefits.
In 2023, R. announced the acquisition of GTA5 and the Wild Darts 2 module team, Cfx.re, which operates two servers, FiveM (created in 2015) and RedM (created in 2019), which focus on multi-playing roles. Back in 2015, the host company, Take-Two, R, characterized the FiveM server as “a non-authorized multi-person game server containing a code that promotes piracy” and banned three core creators. However, the role-playing server policy for developers was transformed in November 2022. The use of servers such as FiveM and RedM is permitted as long as they meet non-commercial conditions, do not abuse intellectual property or trademarks and do not affect official online and multi-person services. The “screened digital store” is now being launched to provide a platform for creators to share and sell their work, covering a wide range of items such as props, scripts, maps, etc. During the start-up phase, the Platform has established cooperation with a selected group of creators (as S.R. claims that these partners have been involved in the market-building process).
This is an important step forward for model authors and server owners in the R Star community, providing them with a more concise and efficient sharing process and centralized platform, while ensuring that creators can benefit directly from the results of their work. Over time, the platform is expected to attract more content creators. Cfx Marketplace is now operational, and the current platform commodities cover a wide range of options, from free to high prices, with the most expensive of these activities, with a combined sales price of $428.99, including bowling balls and jump-starting projects. It is noteworthy that some of the commodities are subject to subscription fees, such as a “worldview-compliant emergency service package” with loads and uniforms at $32.99 per month.
Cfx Marketplace has far-reaching implications for the forthcoming GTA6 player this year: it will lower the threshold for community-wide access to models, give creators greater freedom and flexibility to create, and significantly reduce the operational burden on developers. GTA6 itself is destined to be one of the most interesting games in history, providing players with hundreds of hours of game content and a vast open world, but this is only the tip of the iceberg. When the module is incorporated into GTA 6, its potential will extend its life cycle beyond any previous work. Against the backdrop of the imminent advent of GTA6, it is not clear what impact such market platforms will have on the future of GTA Online. The platform is currently in its “initial start-up phase” and Rockstar is clearly planning to continue its expansion.
